Basquiat - Graffiti Art goes up town

Basquiat is one of the few brilliant artists to come out of the 80’s. His work mixes something between graffiti art, powerful words and an abstract expressionist feel between Pollock and Picasso. The work is primitive yet it has an edge street like, but highly intelectual and intrigueing.

Basquiat was never trained in the arts, his work was sketchy at times, sometimes he would scribble or cross out words At times Basquiat's would quote Leonardo da Vinci or Anatomy textbooks, or tribal African art. I recently had the chance to view a retrospective of his works here in Los Angeles at the MoCA and I highly recommend viewing his works as well as the self titled movie about his life.
